Dress Like a European ($50 Zara Giveaway)

Hi, I'm Nicole from La Mia Vita!
I'm living in Madrid, Spain for a year teaching English and getting my masters.
I've been so fortunate to be able to travel all over Spain and Europe, taking my camera everywhere I go and having the adventure of a lifetime.

I am far from a fashionista, but I'm trying to look like I fit in as a Spaniard and of course would love to dress and look like the effortless chic Europeans. I've been making mental notes of what staples these Spaniards who look like they walked out of Zara are wearing.

If you happen to be planning a trip to Spain or Europe, these are my recommendations of what to pack to look a little more like the cool Europeans we all want to copy:

Leather jacket - One of my first purchases was a leather jacket after seeing almost every one wearing them. I now know why they love them so much, they go with almost everything and keep you warm in between seasons and evenings.
Jeans jacket - I don't think there's anything more european than a jean jacket.
Colorful skirts, dresses, and pants (they really embrace color in the summer!)
A comfortable and cute pair of boots, flats, oxfords and sandals(not the kind that go in between your toes, better for walking a lot)
Stripes- duh. As if I had a striped problem before...
Scarves- I'm fascinated how Europeans can make simple white shirt and jeans outfit so chic with different scarves. White, black, colored, printed, you name it, scarves can do amazing things to an outfit.
Hair- I truly miss my long hair because I so badly to copy the long loose waves and slicked back ponytails that Spaniards carry oh so well
Aviator glasses- no surer way to look European than with a pair of Ray-Bans (knock-offs or real)
Quality over Quantity - this is, I think, the biggest different between American and European style. Europeans are much more likely to invest in a few great pieces and items rather than buy a lot of cheap pieces that are only worn once.

And now to put these new ideas to good use, you have the opportunity to win $50 to our favorite European store: Zara!

Great blogs from both you lovely ladies - totally agree about the scarves; a simple outfit is a bit more wow with a fun printed scarf. We just got suite blanco here (not sure if you ladies have it) and i picked up some gorgeous printed and colourful scarves to make boring winter jumpers a bit more fun :) any excuse for shopping
