Bungee Jumping

On Saturday, a shivering Steven and I crossed something off of our (very long) bucket lists: Bungee Jumping. It was actually an anniversary present to us both, but when we called in July we were told the next available date was in late October - whoops! The day finally arrived, and I have to admit the conditions were not ideal; a crisp 32 degrees and snowing! We huddled together and braved the cold as we waited our turn, watching those up before us take the same plunge that we would be taking as soon as our name was called. The above photos are of the nice man who went before we did. He'd been bungee jumping many times before and didn't seem scared at all! I wish I could have said the same for me.

I didn't feel legitimate fear until we were up on the platform, 50 meters (164 feet) up in the air. I started shaking, thinking over and over again what the heck did I get myself into?  Essentially, I just clung to Steven and dreamt up a happy place.

And then we fell.

And it was the most exhillirating thing I've ever experienced! I couldn't stop laughing as we dangled there by our ankles waiting to get lowered down to ground level.

Do things that scare you. Live a full, adventurous life. Take the plunge.

And in case you need proof, here's a video! (Warning: I scream, and it's pretty loud.) Edit: If you live in Germany and can't watch it because of the music rights thing, just click "watch on youtube" and your problems should be solved.

Have you ever done anything that scares you? Let us know - I'd love to get a discussion going!

Germany won't let me watch the video - poop.

BUT so impressed, I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to actually jump once I got up there.

And happy day... I'm no longer a no-reply blogger :)

I saw this on facebook last night and it made me want to bungee jump again! It's so cool that you and Stephen we're able to jump together :) Jurgen and I went "together" but had to jump separately!

wowzers! lol! watching the video gave me anxiety! i try to do stuff that scares me, especially when i'm traveling, but i have to say that bungee jumping/sky diving are not things that i have ever wanted to do. the closest thing i ever did to bungee jumping was doing a "tarzan swing" in costa rica, you still have to jump off a very high-up platform, but you swing instead of going upside down, also, not as far as up. but i hate when they give you directions before you go - like when they were telling you and steven how to stand and hold you hands - i know they have to give you directions but i always think, ohmygawdd, what if i mess it up! haha!

so fun that you guys have a video of it!! :)

I'm horribly afraid of heights but made myself bungee when I was in college. Now, I can say I did it. Still afraid of heights. Oh well!

Whoa! I could never ever do that. I'm too afraid. Love the video of you two.

I couldn't do it- just watching the video is stressful! I did do white water rafting down the Nile is Uganda and our raft almost went over a waterfall- that was terrifying. I've also done lots of highropes course and rock climbing (the best experience was open face rock climbing in Laos- beautiful and so challenging). Most terrifying though? Belaying other people, and knowing you're responsible for their lives with every knot you tie. So much pressure!

Holy crap. I just had a panic attack for you. I'm pretty scared of falling so I don't know if I'd be brave enough to try that.

This gave me chills! I went skydiving for my 18th birthday, which was 6 years ago. It was the most terrifying/thrilling/craziest thing I have ever done! I don't think I could ever do it again, but I'm so glad I did! When I think about it, I still can't believe I did it...It gives me chills!

Daryl, I felt nervous watching it! Congrats on doing it! You're a braver soul than I am!

The scariest thing I've done so far is gone diving in the middle of the ocean. I'm terrified of not being able to touch the bottom that I will actually have panic attacks and I went through with it and ended up swimming with a shark and barracuda.
