A Quick Stint with the Swiss

We were laid over in Zurich last week on our way to Barcelona.
We weren't given enough time to truly explore the city, but we were able to take a quick peek. We covered the most important necessity, however:
Stock up on as much Swiss Chocolate as humanly possible!

And what's a stop in Switzerland if you don't check out SWATCH?

Switzerland is beautiful. It's always seemed special to me, but the opportunity to visit has never really presented itself. I would love to spend more than just a few hours there, and visit several different cities while I'm at it...but the truth is, Switzerland is dang expensive. More expensive than France, and that's saying something. The cost of food and lodging is really what's been preventing us from planning a trip there, which is why a layover seemed like the perfect time to at least be introduced to it. If we had the time and money I'd love to visit Basel, Bern, Lugano...as well as trek around in the alps a bit and check out the UNREAL blue waters of the lakes there. A few hours layed over in Zurich obviously didn't allow us such luxuries, but I can't complain.  Until next time, Switzerland!

Have you been to Switzerland? Whereabouts? What were the highlights? Lowlights?

I've wanted to go to Zurich for soooo long. My friends and I are planning a weekend away somewhere this summer so might add it to the list of possibilities...these photos look beautiful!

I've heard so many great things about Switzerland, but haven't yet visited myself. Jurgen was there for three weeks this past November as his study leader for his phd was on sabbatical there and they had some loose ends to tidy up before submitting Jurg's thesis. He said the country is amazing, but also super expensive like you said!

You could totally visit Basel but stay in Germany, might even work for Bern too because you GOTTA GO TO SWITZERLAND AGAIN. I love it there.

I totally agree with Alex. Since Switzerland is quite small you definitely have the opportunity to stay in Germany and make day trips to various swiss cities. You could stay in Freiburg (Black Forest) and visit Basel and probably Bern too. Then you could move on to Constance (Lake Constance) which is a beautiful region of itself. I know because I live there ;-) From Constance you could visit Zurich and St. Gallen. And then you have basically seen all the highlights from the German speaking part of Switzerland ;-)

I have a friend who is from Belgium originally and goes back every summer where he visits Switzerland and France. I'm insanely jealous of him but he always comes back with the most beautiful things!

I live near Zurich and love it! It's such a beautiful city and I still explore new things on my way to university.

There are so many beautiful places in Switzerland: First of all the mountains, Zermatt, Lucerne, the french speaking part, etc. etc. Come back asap! ;)

Lucerne is a dream. My second favorite city in the world, perhaps. You definitely have to go back!

Oh you must go to Switzerland and spend time there. ONLY downside is the cost--it's crazy expensive. But it's the most peaceful, beautiful, safe, clean place I've ever been. I spent a week in Southern Switzerland in a tiny village called Cully (between Montreaux and Geneva) on the shore of Lake Geneva. It was seriously like being in a fairytale. I absolutlely loved it!
