Postcards from Amsterdam

I was lucky enough to visit Amsterdam in June of 2010. Wow, that was so long ago! I did most of my sightseeing there alone, so I didn't really experience the nightlife that Amsterdam is so famous for. I did, however, spend my days perusing the flower markets, walking along the canals, sitting in parks for hours listening to street performers, and get on the street train with absolutely no idea where I was going, getting on an off whenever something looked interesting. I really, truly enjoyed myself!

I stumbled upon this fabulous street market!
World's tiniest car?
Double exposure of a building near Vondelpark and the windows in a beautiful church.

Must do: The Van-Gogh museum. I did an audio-tour by myself and was extremely impressed. The paintings are arranged in the order they were painted over the span of his life, so you can see the paintings evolve and change in tone as he grows older. I would DEFINITELY go back again!

Must eat: at Cafe Pieper on the Prinsengracht. The waiters are in white shirts and black ties. It is downright tiny and oh so adorable, and the food was great!

Must see: Vondelpark. My hotel was right on one side of it, so I would walk through it every day when leaving/coming back. I wish parks in America were like this. I would hang out here all day long!

Memorable moment: Watching dutch children play ball (in Vondelpark), seeing one trip, and hearing another shout out "Epic Fail!"

Daryl's super duper naive moment of the day: Um, yeah. Coffee shops? Not really coffee shops.

I love the parks like Vondelpark - between that and hte English Gardens in Munich, I'm just blown away how big cities can have such retreats!

David and I visited Amsterdam back in November. The best. Especially when we found ourselves a little lost and ended up at the most amazing of breweries. Ahhh.. traveling:)
