My apologies for the photo overload – this is only a small fraction of the images I took when hiking with friends in Ventura County, California on Saturday afternoon. We’d reached the top of the hill (mountain? Hill.) about an hour before sunset and simply enjoyed the scenery there for quite a while – my camera was pretty much attached to my face the entire time, and it was so cool to see the light change the colors of everything around me. I watched as things went from green to gold and then eventually faded to gray as the sun ducked behind the gorgeous hills at the horizon. It completely took my breath away.
The funny thing to me is that I’d lived in Southern California for years and years and never appreciated it’s beauty to this degree. Sure, I acknowledged I lived in a cool place…but did I ever thank God for surrounding me with such amazing things? No! I’m sad to say it took my leaving and living somewhere else to bring me to fully appreciate the gorgeousness my old home had to offer. It’s sad for me to think that there are others like me, blessed beyond measure and yet not even aware of it.
Look around you and count your blessings. There is beauty everywhere and it is amazing.

I lived in Southern California for 2 years and Northern California for 7 years and I too forgot its beauty.
When I was reading this post I was thinking... "Oh where did she travel to now?" It didn't cross my mind this may be my old home!
