STEP ONE: MAKE YOUR BEACH HAIR SPRAY
You really don’t have to be exact on your measurements. Find a spray bottle (Personally, I would have preferred mine to be smaller but I had this one on hand) and fill it with hot water. Add a spoonful or two of coconut oil, put the lid on and shake. The coconut oil comes as a solid but should melt in the hot water. Coconut oil smells great and is really good for strengthening hair. A tablespoon of rubbing alcohol will help the spray last longer and combat your hair’s oil buildup, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of hair gel will help your hair maintain the wave once it’s achieved. The final ingredient, sea salt, is perhaps the most important as it’s what provides your beach waves with the chunky, gritty volume that we all love so much. Use your judgement here – I added a little less than a tablespoon, but of course you can add as much as you want.
Be sure to shake well before each use!
STEP TWO: PREP YOUR HAIR FOR NO HEAT CURLS
Before bed, spray very slightly damp hair with your new surf spray. This is the part where you do what’s best for you: Some of you might prefer braiding your hair in one long braid before bed, other’s might prefer several small braids – personally, my favorite approach to curling my hair is as follows:
Remember: These waves are supposed to be low maintenance, easy and carefree. Run your fingers through your curls to loosen them and break the curls into smaller chunks. Spray with your surf spray all over, scrunch, and shake your hair out. Sometimes I tease the roots just a bit for added volume, and sometimes I don't! This is an art but certainly not a science.
I hope you find this helpful!

This is awesome!! I'm definitely going to have to try this :)
This is the only slight reason I regret cutting off all my hair- no summer curls! :( Your hair looks awesome!
Thank you thank you for the recipe!! I've loved the Bumble and Bumble beach salt spray but always thought there MUST be a way to make my own. I will definitely be giving this a try!
I seriously need to master this bc I get so lazy come summer in the heat
Can't wait to try this! :)
I'm going to have to keep this one in mind. Especially when we do go to the beach next month! (My hair totally doesn't do the beachy waves naturally...even on the beach.)
