In this post last week, I put together an outfit including a darling pair of glitter-toed flats by Jimmy Choo. I fell in love with them instantly – they were so whimsical, so feminine, so sweet! The problem? They cost $115. I don’t know about you, but for me that is just too many dollars for one pair of shoes! I began looking around for cheaper versions of the shoe but couldn’t find one I was satisfied with. Thus, I decided I was going to make my own! There is a store in downtown Frankfurt called FourStar where you can get shoes for CHEAP. I picked up a pair of baby pink ballerina flats there for 5 euros (About $6.50) and walked a few minutes from the shoe store to the craft store, where I found some glittery paint. As you can see, they turned out pretty well! I’m about to show you how you can make your own. ![]()
What you’ll need:
1. Flats in your desired color
2. Painters tape
3. Glittery Paint
4. Paint Brush
STEP ONE:
Tape off the section of shoe you’d like to paint. Be sure to make sure the tape is down good and tight – you don’t want any paint to bleed through!
STEP TWO:
Begin painting. Sweep your first glittery coat over the shoes and let dry completely. I went for a dark silver paint. Make sure the paint you choose will work well with the material your shoe is made of – because the flats I bought were made from a suede like material, I made sure to buy fabric paint.
STEP THREE:
Repeat that step two or three more times, being sure to let each coat dry in between painting. When you are satisfied with the look of things, let dry for several hours.
STEP FOUR:
Carefully peel back painters tape and bask in your own awesomeness!
SO. EASY. Right? It took me a few hours but most of that time was spent just waiting for paint to dry. There really isn’t a lot of effort needed to make these beauties.
Let’s go over the expenses. I paid 5 euros for the shoes and 4 euros for the paint. I already had the painters tape and the paint brush on hand. Overall that ran me up 9 Euros, or about $11. However, considering I only used about 1/4 of the paint I bought, I can confidently say these shoes cost me well under $10. Take that, Jimmy Choo!
What do you think??

Come say hey at Ducklingtoswan.com!
I like your version way better! The flats you bought have a more rounded toe than the Jimmy Choo's and I feel like that makes them more feminine and sweet. Love the dark charcoal color you chose!
