Laughing With God.

I gotta tell you, sometimes the big guy upstairs really has a sense of humor. If this statement seems a little odd to you, keep reading and I'll do my very best to explain. Both my husband and I are, as most of you already know, quite religious. We live incredibly blessed lives and I am certain that it is the result of our Heavenly Father's unyielding generosity. Sometimes however, and I know I'm not the only one guilty of this, one can forget the part God plays in our life and take our blessings for granted. We see it over and over again in the scriptures: People are faithful, God blesses people, people get cocky and ungrateful, God does something to teach them a lesson.

The lessons I've learned over the past view days did not involve rain of fire or being turned to salt, but I will say both my husband and I received the celestial equivalent of a nice slap in the face. You see, the hubs and I have gotten a bit lazy. We've missed church and slacked on family prayer and personal study. Today we had an appointment scheduled with the German government regarding our visas, and so yesterday after a full schedule of being complete bums and lazing the day away, we began gathering the documents we would need to present at the government building the following morning.

We could not find our marriage certificate. This is a big deal, mind you, because it took us months to go through the hoops of getting the marriage certificate sent to us from America. Now, the day before our appointment, we can't find it? Are you kidding me?! In addition, I soon discovered that both of our passports were missing from their usual place in one of our drawers. We searched high and low for hours, tearing our apartment to shreds, until I was on the verge of a full-fledged panic attack.
"We have a trip planned THIS WEEKEND!" I sobbed. "Those tickets are non-refundable! Where the heck are the passports?!"  It continued on like this for another hour. Our apartment is not that big. There are only so many places you can look. It had taken us months to get to this appointment, and the marriage certificate was absolutely necessary to have. I knew that, should we cancel, it would be weeks or months before we could get another appointment and that was simply not okay. It was then that I received an impression to pray. I expressed this to my husband who quickly replied that he had the same feeling. We got on our knees. Steven said the words. He asked for forgiveness for our laziness, for taking our blessings for granted. He asked for help.

We found both the passports and our marriage certificate less than five minutes later.

Our Heavenly Father saw us veering slightly from the path and He immediately sent us that reminder, that we NEED him in our lives, our home, our marriage. We really do.

I am so humbled.

God really does have a sense of humor. I am learning to laugh with Him.

Phew! What a relief! Yes, He absolutely DOES have a sense of humor. I'm so glad the panic didn't make you lose yours. Wonderful post!

Had those moments before, but with other documents. I don't lose my passport anymore as it's in my bag at all times because I need it a lot. And yes God does have a sense of humor, been saying that for years and people look at me funny when I say it but I really can imagine Him giggling away when He sees us in situations like this.
