The Simple Things: Week One!

Hi everyone! I hope you have all had a great week. It has been a week since I wrote this post where I explained my need for living a more simple life as well as my frustrations that I couldn't seem to let that happen. I decided that, in order to successfully approach the idea, the lifestyle of simple living, I was going to have to take it one step at a time.

I made it my goal this past week to cut back on those little things that waste my time. Although I wasn't 100% successful, I definitely noticed a difference in my day...and that was awesome! This is what I did:

1.  I made a list. Each day I wrote down the absolutely essential things that needed to get done before the day was out. Included in this list were things like: Finish History essay, deep clean the kitchen, write this/that blog post...etc;  I used to make lists like this in my head all of the time, but for some reason having it actually written on paper was much more effective when it came to forcing my lazy butt to do all of these things.
2. I read this article which I found via one of my favorite blogs After Nine to Five.  Lemme tell you something,  if you struggle with procrastination you should definitely read. It really helped me to reduce the amount of wasted time this week.
3. I scheduled things that used to stress me out, and now I find they're not so stressful anymore. I don't freak out about piled up laundry any more because I've set laundry aside to be done only on Tuesdays and Fridays. I don't get mad at myself for procrastinating on my online religion course, because Steven and I now plan to do that every Monday night.
4. I try to openly accept the fact that I just can't do it all. I went to sleep this week with (gasp!) dishes piled up in the sink. I didn't let it bother me. I washed them the next day. I can try to be a model housewife, but the pearls and the apron and the high heels are going to have to come of sometime. That's okay. Not stressing about the little things opened up my day a little bit, helping me enjoy more time with my husband...and just enjoy things more in general.

Simplicity, like organization and so many other things, is a process...not a destination.

That is why I'm taking this one week at a time, and I invite you to try it with me.

Challenge #2:
Edit your rooms
"...One room at a time, go around the room and eliminate the unnecessary. Act as a newspaper editor, trying to leave only the minimum, and deleting everything else." - The Simple Living Manifesto.

I am seriously really excited...clutter is never, ever good! I don't want to overwhelm myself, so this week I am only committing to do this to our living room and bedroom. I'll do more if I find the time!

I've attached a link up widget so that, should you choose, you can link up your own experiences with simple living. If you haven't written a post about it...tell me about it in a comment!

That article really helped me out, too. Honestly though - all of the posts from their blog help me out some way. I need to be simplifying my life some more so I'll definitely be joining in soon!

Have a wonderful weekend! :]

I need to get on this. I keep putting things off because of school and job searching but this will make things so much simpler and more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your progress and where you have found inspiration! I can't wait to read that post. :]
